Infosec tip of the day: Google alerts

Yesterday I explained how to preview shortened links.

Today’s tip is one that I learned some time ago from Kevin Beaumont via Twitter.

I actually used Google Alerts to get daily security related news in my mailbox. When I read this tweet I thought “Damn, why didn’t I come up with this myself.”. It’s so simple but yet so effective.

I immediately created a rule to monitor myself. Not because I’m so vain, but because I value my privacy and my online presence. I’m a bit reluctant about setting Google alerts for my home address though. Because of privacy reasons, I try to give Google as less personal information as possible.

But like Kevin Beaumont mentions it’s even more powerful as a tool to monitor the (unintentional) online exposure of your company!
